February 24, 2011 – WLEX-18

On February 24, 2011, WLEX-18 aired an updated story on Zach.  Nancy Cox and “Big Zach” do a great job job of telling Zach’s story.

Two years ago, LEX 18 introduced you to Zach Pickard, a Lexington boy suffering from a rare genetic disorder, called progeria, that affects only about 70 children in the entire world, making them age at a rapid pace.

We recently visit with Zach and his family again. Zach’s now in an experimental drug trial that just may give this family hope and change the way the world treats these children.

Progeria means at an early age, Zach will suffer many of the same maladies the elderly face – arthritis, brittle bones, heart disease. Children like Zach usually don’t live beyond their teenage years.

LEX 18’s Nancy Cox will have more on the treatment Zach is on and the progress he is making, as well as information on the upcoming Zach Attack Bowl-A-Thon that will help raise money for progeria, coming on LEX 18 Evening Edition on Thursday night at 7 p.m.

To learn more about the bowl-a-thon as well as progeria research, click on www.zach-attack.org or www.progeriaresearch.org.

December 31, 2010 – “Cooking for a Cure”

Jan_Small

In conjunction with the 2010 Pelican Run, Brownstown Electric Supply Company created an incredible cookbook named “Cooking for a Cure” that contains simple and delicious recipes submitted by Zach’s family, friends and Brownstown employees.  Brownstown sold over 500 cookbooks earlier in 2010 and our chapter has now raised $500 in cookbook sales.  The books are hard-bound and include many delicious recipes.  The cost is $13.00.  Please email t.pickard@insightbb.com if you’re intersted in purchasing one or more!
